2020 Candidates Forum

Every election cycle, SUNY Geneseo hosts a candidates’ forum for both Geneseo students and the local community.

In the advent of COVID-19, we are excited to offer this event virtually to the greater campus community on Tuesday, October 20th!

This year, the forum will last two hours and will be structured into two sessions. Both sessions will last 60-minutes and will be moderated by the SUNY Geneseo Student Association President Kaitlyn Bertleff, with assistance from the Andrew Goodman Foundation Voting Ambassadors.

The first hour (7:00-8:00 pm EST) will consist of a debate between the candidates for the 27th Congressional District.

All questions for the debate will be collected ahead of time by a google form (submit questions here) and approved by the Geneseo Votes Coalition, which consists of Democrats, Republicans, and on-campus nonpartisan civic engagement organizations.

Debate Rules: All candidates will have two minutes for opening statements, two minutes for responses, 1 minute for rebuttals, and two minutes for closing statements.

The second hour (8:00-9:00 pm EST) will consist of a moderated forum with State Senate candidates and State Assembly candidates. The first 30-minutes will be for the State Senate, the second 30-minutes for the State Assembly.

All questions will be collected during the five-minute intermission and fielded live. The bipartisan Geneseo Votes Coalition will approve questions.

Forum Rules: Candidates will have two minutes for opening statements, two minutes for responses, and two minutes for closing statements.
