Voice professors Joan Floriano and Kara Cornell will be holding open auditions for Voice Classes "for the General Student".

Auditions will be Tuesday 1/20 11:30-1, and Wednesday 1/21 11:30-12:30 (and by appointment if needed). Auditions will be in Professor Floriano's studio, Brodie 114.

Voice Classes "for the General Student" include Beginning Voice MUSC 141, Intermediate and Advanced MUSC 241, 341 and are offered to non majors and students in the Music Education minor.

The classes meet weekly and are approximately 8-12 students. Each class is one credit. The classes cover folk songs (American or British), pieces from the Great American Songbook, representations from the American Musical Theatre post 1970, and other repertoire at the discretion of the instructor. Students learn the pieces together and the pieces are performed individually. Students learn and are assessed on all components of singing (breath management, resonance/tone quality, language production and delivery and emotional interpretation). There are two writing assignments and a listening assignment.

Entry into all sections of Voice for the General Student requires a brief audition, and students will be placed in the appropriate section. The auditions consist of vocalization and range check and pitch recognition. It is not necessary to bring music to the audition.

If you have questions, please contact Professor Floriano and/or Professor Cornell at florianoj@geneseo.edu and kcornell@geneseo.edu
