Dr. Walter Cooper is a scientist who worked for many years as a research chemist at Eastman Kodak. He is also a civil rights activist with leadership roles in the NAACP, Urban League, and other organizations in Rochester. School #10 is named in his honor (the Dr. Walter Cooper Academy), and he served as a Regent for the State of New York.
