SUNY Geneseo Department of Music and Musical Theatre Degree Program will present elegies for angels, punks and raging queens, a musical with music by Janet Hood and lyrics and book by Bill Russell. This production is directed by Scott Scaffidi with music direction by Don Kot.
The work features songs and monologues inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. Each of the monologues is written from the perspective of characters who've died from AIDS and the songs represent the feelings of friends and family members dealing with the loss. The emotions and stories within this musical resonate throughout society today as we grapple with the coronavirus pandemic. So much has changed and, yet, so much has stayed the same. elegies for angels, punks and raging queens reminds us to live in the moment, take nothing for granted, cherish our loved ones, and celebrate humanity.
This production of elegies for angels, punks and raging queens features Jacob Anspach, Marion Avila, Sophia Benny, Benjamin Bernstein, Kat Berton, Kayla Bush, Cameron Franke, Taylor Fritz, Tessa Hensler, Tamara Huzair, Kyle Johnson, Sandra Kralik, Prince Massie, Marianne Maysuch, Kayla McGallian, Rocky Nardone, Kay Nocerino, Kelsey Roberts, Ryan Silverstein, Will Snyder, Carl Treiber, Vanessa Urbina, Molly Wadhams, and Emily Zandy. Production stage managers are Emma Brune and Nicole Gindling; Lydia Babcock, Evan Labeau and the cast comprise the dramaturgy, filming and audio recording, costumes, props, hair, make-up, video and audio editing, communications and outreach teams.
This production was created remotely and in person using social distancing guidelines and following mandatory pooled weekly testing and sanitization protocols.
