About this Event
Doty Hall, Park St, Geneseo, NY 14454
Join the Geneseo Wind Quintet in Doty Recital Hall on Sunday afternoon, November 13, at 3:00pm for a concert of sparkling quintet music!
We kick off the night with Jacques Ibert’s Trois Pièces Brèves, a vivacious classic of the wind quintet repertoire. Next, Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin pays homage to Baroque dance-suite sensibilities in delicate early 20th-century French style. Originally written for piano and transcribed by the composer for orchestra, the piece suits the wind quintet beautifully in an arrangement by Mason Jones. Robert Muczynski’s cinematic Quintet for Winds follows, with its high-energy outer movements framing a lilting, off-balance Andante. Finally, we round out the program with the gorgeous Milonga Sin Palabras (“milonga without words”) by Argentinean “Nuevo tango” innovator Astor Piazzolla, arranged for wind quintet by William Scribner.
The concert is free and open to the public.
