 alth OR SUST 388: Urban Sustainability (choose one\, but both courses trave
 l together)\nRegister for Spring 2026\, with 2+ weeks of travel after the s
 emester ends (“Travel Added Course”) – so you can travel with this course e
 ven if you graduate in Spring!\nCourse(s) may count for your program in: Bi
 ology\, Biochemistry\, Black & Africana Studies\, Geography\, International
  Relations\, Neuroscience\, Sociomedical Sciences\, Sustainability Studies\
 , Urban Studies\n\nThis faculty-led program travels to Accra\, Kumasi\, and
  Cape Coast.\nGhana is experiencing extraordinarily rapid environmental and
  social change. This includes rapid deforestation\, visible climate change 
 and very rapid urbanization. Ghana\, like many developing countries\, exper
 ienced colonialism followed by post-colonial development. In lower-middle i
 ncome countries\, economic growth in the twenty-first century has brought w
 ealth and better health for some\, but not all. As a result\, poverty coexi
 sts side by side with wealth\, and Ghana faces challenges seen in low-incom
 e countries as well as those seen in high-income countries. This program se
 eks to dig deeper into this. Africa is undergoing rapid urbanization\, and 
 more than half of time will be spent in and around Accra and Kumasi\, the t
 wo largest cities. We also visit Cape Coast to see tropical rainforest\, an
 d to visit to one or more of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Cape Coast 
 related to the transatlantic slave trade.\nSite visits to such places as Wa
 ter & Sanitation for the Urban Poor\, Agogo Hospital\, West African AIDS Fo
 undation\, Elmina Slave Castle\, and Kakum National Park.\n\nBIOL course co
