Initiated by SUNY Geneseo students in 2021, the Love Shouldn't Hurt Campaign returns this October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event is designed to raise awareness and provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to collectively demonstrate their commitment to ending Domestic & Dating Violence within our community.

This year we are fundraising for the Willow Domestic Violence Center in Rochester, NY, a well-known local resource center for survivors of domestic and/or dating violence. To read more about Willow’s mission, visit https://willowcenterny.org/. This event will feature the “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” Pledge, in which students are invited to take the pledge against sexual violence and uphold their duty as an active bystander. The first 250 students in attendance will receive a purple “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” T-shirt. Participants will also be invited to purchase raffle tickets for $2 a ticket. Raffle prizes will contain various gift cards from local businesses, including from generous donors, Intermissions, Uptown Tan, and Genesee Valley Florist.

All proceeds will be donated to Willow. Once students have taken the pledge, entered the raffle, and changed into their purple shirts, we will host a walk around the campus as a collective demonstration of support for survivors. There will be free snacks, drinks, stickers, stress balls, purple ribbons, and t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first serve basis. This event welcomes all students, staff and faculty within the campus community.

If you are a member of Greek Life, Residence Life, Athletics, or a club or any other organization, we encourage you to participate with your entire organization so that we may demonstrate that the students of SUNY Geneseo stand against domestic violence.
