This talk by Dr. Farha Ternikar (Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of Gender & Women's studies at Le Moyne College) explores the representation of Muslim women in social media and popular culture through an intersectional and transnational feminist lens.
In particular, Ternikar draws attention to new representations of Muslim women both in online spaces but also in television shows like Miss Marvel. This new scholarship not only challenges hegemonic stereotypes of Muslim women “beyond hijab” but also offers new insight into how we can study Muslim women using popular culture.
