"WHERE YOU AT?: ON PLACE, DISTANCE, & DISCOVERY"

Please join the Creative Writing Program and the Department of English for a reading & author talk with fiction writer Kristen Gentry on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 4:30pm in Doty 300. Gentry will discuss the ways that different stories, books, poems, essays, etc. may require different things from us-- including physical moves-- in order for us to bring them forth into the world. Books will be available for purchase.

Kristen Gentry is the author of Mama Said, named one of the "Most Anticipated Debuts of 2023" by Debutiful. Kirkus gave the short story collection a starred review, calling it "a celebration of Black family life that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure.”

Kristen Gentry received her MFA from Indiana University. Her award-winning fiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and appeared in Crab Orchard Review, Jabberwock Review, and other journals. She is a VONA and Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference alumna, former Director of Creative Writing at SUNY Geneseo, and a member of the inaugural Poets & Writers publicity incubator for debut writers. She lives and writes in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

Copies of Mama Said will be available for purchase. This event is hosted by the Creative Writing program and the department of English, with additional support from the Black Studies and Africana Studies program and the Office of the Provost.
