The Shear Speaker Series will bring recognized figures and experts to campus to inform and engage the college community, greater PK-12 community, and public on pressing topics in education. This inaugural session will consider the growing interest in what is called the Science of Reading. Reading programs based on this approach are becoming more and more common in schools.
Three panelists will examine some overlooked considerations surrounding the implementation of Science of Reading methods from three unique perspectives: Donna M. Scanlon, Professor Emeritus, Department of Literacy Teaching and Learning, University at Albany, State University of New York Tyana Velazquez-Smith, Director of Early Childhood Programs, Rochester Area Community Foundation Betsy Brown (BS ’02; MSEd ’07), Director of Instructional Services, Byron-Bergen Central Schools
A reception will be held immediately following the event.
