The Shift from Grading to Ungrading, Michael Leroy Obery, Distinguished Teaching Professor, History
A growing number of American college professors are changing the way they grade students. Some are engaging an evaluation method referred to as "ungrading." Last Fall semester, Michael Oberg decided to stop scoring papers, opting instead to write lengthy comments and meet individually with students. During Finals Week, students handed in their final work, and told him what they thought they deserved as their grade. Michael Oberg will share what he learned during this experiment with "ungrading," and discuss changing the faculty/student power dynamic and ineffective grading methods.
