Civil Rights Movement historian Emilye Crosby will be leading an interactive Learning Toolkit workshop focused on SNCC and voting rights during the Civil Rights Movement. SNCC was established by college students in 1960 and became the cutting edge of the Civil Rights Movement, leading the way on direct action, voting rights, and organizing for Black political power. At the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to dig into documents and audiovisual materials, learn about Voting Rights in SNCC’s movement building, and collectively explore how those lessons might be relevant today. This workshop is geared toward students, educators, community or activist groups, civic organizations, librarians, youth—and anyone who wants to learn more. Refreshments will be served and all attendees will receive a free toolkit. This event is sponsored by the History Department and School of Education, including Professors Simmons and Oigara.
