Winner of the Drama Critics' Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical when it premiered Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 1997, and then on to a Tony-nominated Broadway debut in 2014 with a revised version, Violet is a moving musical featuring show-stopping anthems, ranging from American-roots to folk to gospel. Violet, a girl who suffered a tragic accident leaving her scarred, goes on a journey through the American South in 1964 in search of healing. On her travels she discovers that true beauty lies within, and her healing journey becomes one of forgiveness, trust, strength and acceptance. Violet is a piece of the American musical theatre canon you will not soon forget.
Violet contains alcohol and cigarette use, sexual situations and dialogue, and depictions of racism in the context of the 1960's in the United States of America.
